Singles Day Out!

Yesterday was a fun-filled Sunday for the Elim Singles as we commenced our monthly socials dubbed as “The All Out Sports Getaway.” All geared up in our sports outfit, we started the day with a lively praise and worship at the ground floor of St. Augustine Rectory Building (Metropolitan Cathedral), followed by those full-packed action “indoor” games and a festive lunch shared by the Single Elimites in CDO and Gingoog, and some other invited singles too.

At around one o’clock in the afternoon, we then headed to Xavier Sports & Country Club for the event proper. Badminton, table tennis, bowling and basketball, we spent four straight hours, sweating it all out in every game. It’s been so long that I haven’t played table tennis then (I haven’t laid my hands on a table tennis racket for three years I guess), so I indulged myself on this sport after I’ve had enough bonding with the shuttlecock, hehe! I would have tried playing billiards after my table tennis session but I didn’t have much time though, as the group were already about to leave the sports arena. (Not unless I wanted to be left behind, and I would take the solo flight at the billiards pool, hahaha!).

A few more minutes before finally leaving Xavier Estates, we sat back, relaxed and had a mini singles conference near the bowling alley, hehehhe! A simple table talk that is… planning about our next singles monthly socials, the Excellence Conference in Manila this October, and the National Singles Conference 2007. Whew! A lot more activities in the list! And we are all excited to take part on these Christ-centered events. Go Singles! Go Elimites!

Pacman's Victory, Filipino's Pride!

I'm not a boxing fanatic, but I really had my eye glued on TV last Sunday, July 2, 2006, when our very own Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao fought Mano-A-Mano with Mexico's bet Oscar "Chololo" Larios. Whew! It was another triumph for the Filipinos! Pacquiao once again had his kababayans up on their feet as he retained his WBC International Super Feather Weight belt that afternoon at the Araneta Coliseum. Pacquiao defeated Larios by way of a unanimous decision, the judges scoring 117-110, 118-108 and 120-106 all in favor of Pacquiao.

.

It was a scary start for "Pacman" as he had a taste of Larios' powerful right jabs during round 3. But he quickly recovered which resulted to a bloody cut on Larios' left eye. By the 4th round Manny not only returned his opponent's punches but connected more on his target. His trademark left hand was tough on Larios' but everyone was surprised that his right hand also delivered hard punches. Though he told the press that he'd have the Mexican by the 6th round, yet Larios proved to be a tough contender for they finished all 12 rounds. Manny was able to make Larios go down on his knees at the 7th and 12th rounds. Oucchh! That was tough!

.

Larios, on the other hand, exhibited true spirit of sportsmanship. I could see his warm smile to the Filipino crowd as he stepped towards the boxing arena. And when the fight was over, he was gentleman and humble enough to retain his composure as he flashed a wide grin on his face amidst the triumphant cheers of the crowd for Manny's victory. He even thanked not only Pacquiao but also the Filipinos for giving him a chance to fight.

Not a boxing fanatic eh? Hehehe! But I'm an avid "Pacman" supporter. Cheers to all Filipinos out there! Paquiao's victory is the triumph of everybody!
